  • SHORT SUMMARY: I want to find a detailed specification for the UEFI FastBoot process

    DETAILS:

The Windows team introduced a feature called FastBoot. It allows certain PCs that support it to boot very quickly. It needs to be implemented in the UEFI (BIOS) but my understanding is that the Windows team proposed it so that Windows devices boot quickly.

My vague understanding of how it works is that it short-cuts the boot process when you power down Windows.

This new feature that is showing up in new PCs is catching a lot of developers of 3rd party security products by surprise. These tools have EFI applications that run at boot time and are failing because the device is not sufficiently initialized for them.

I can't find a document that describes the feature in detail. Just a bunch of blogs that say "Wow, Windows FastBoot really is fast!" Something with some meat would be nice.
