Compaq OEM Vista Home Premium "Not Genuine" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using the OEM version Windows Vista Home Premium that came with this laptop about 5 months ago. It has only just, today, started reporting the licence as counterfeit, after installing and removing some new graphics drivers.

When activating on the site, I get error code [0xC004C4A5]

  • If you recieved this message (or something similar): "Windows has been deactivated due to a recent hardware change.  You have 3 days to reactivate Windows" then do the following:

Reactivate by internet or telephone by clicking the start/windows button and typing in "slui.exe 4" and pressing Enter.  You will probably have to use "Activate by Telephone" which takes awhile since the automated thing infamously never works.

  • It's not been deactivated, it's just not genuine any more. When I reformatted a while ago, using the OEM licence, I had to telephone to activate then as the automatic activation would not work. Will this have anything to do with it?
