Receive Attachments within OCS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have OCS 2007 R2 and for internal users we can send and receive Attachments fine within the IM. But I have a user that is out on Internet logged in and cannot receive the Attachements. I ahve also logged in through DSL and not on a VPN and also i cannot receive or send Attachments. When you send attachments does it require a different Port to be open on the firewall? the Error Message back is "Cannot receive the File AFASFAS.pdf from John. This may be due to firewall restrictions or network problems."

    Thanks,

  • Communicator file transfer is a peer to peer operation that takes place over ports 6891-6901.  Firewalls and/or NAT will generally block it.

  • Right, if you aren't mapping those ports to the PC running Communicator on both ends then the transfer will fail.  The bottom line is that file transfer is not designed to work across the internet.
