Disabling OneCare Firewall for specific Network Device? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using the standard MS Firewall I was able to disable the firewall for individual network connections.  How do I do this via MS OneCare 2.0?

For instance, how do I do this in OneCare:

"Verify that your firewall is off for the network connections that represent the ATI DCTs. I had problems similar to yours and I explicitly turned off the firewall for the DCTs and now I can tune everything on both tuners. Previously, only one tuner would work and that tuner would not tune some of the digital, non-HD channels like Fine Living.

To disable the firewall, Start -> Windows Firewall -> Allow a program through -> (Windows Firewall Settings) Advanced Tab -> Uncheck Local Area Connection 2, 3, for each DCT."

  • You can't.

The OneCare firewall is on or off for *all* connections.

You would need to provide the required exceptions for the ATI program to the firewall - perhaps specific ports and protocols if they are non-standard.

  • Thanks Stephen.  That is unfortunate.  Seems like an easy addition to add for a future release perhaps.  For now I'll just switch to using the standard Windows Firewall vs. the OneCare one where I can disable monitoring of the two ATI DCT boxes.
