Error posting picture to forum

Question
-
I have tried using the Insert image icon to post an image and these instructions: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/ad942042-c17e-4837-8465-6c3115602053/how-to-post-an-image-or-screenshot-to-the-forum?forum=w7itprogeneral
But all that happens is a small icon of a page with a green mountain appears instead of the image and if I try and submit the post it say "Unexpected error".
In the instructions from the link above, it says to click the <> button, but I do not seem to have this icon. I have an html button, but putting the suggested text in there still results in the same icon.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Macdonald,
Please click HTML as yellow highlighted below then input the image url like: <img src="http://www.best-trade-car.com/blogpics/nissan-gtr.jpg" /> then the picture will be showing properly. Thanks
By the way , your account has been verified. you should have no upload pic limitation.

Hi, I just uploaded the above image. What you should do is, click on reply and you will get the Image insert option in the top section of the textbox control

That's the button I was trying to use. When I click upload and select the image from my computer it has a circle that spins around in the middle and the image URL gets updated with some text. I've left it for about 20 minutes and the circle thing is still there as if it is thinking but nothing else happens. If i click insert, I get the strange icon.
Any ideas?

Hi,
Does the image meet the size requirements? Have you been able to successfully post images before?

Please do not read this sentence. Please ignore the previous sentence.

Also, sometimes posting images can be very slow. If you waited more than 5 minutes, however, that is too long. I think the idea to refresh and try again is best. Unless there are limits I'm not aware of on size.

The only limit I know of is the 1024KB size restriction (and the 2 images per post, but that wouldn't be relevant here).Don't retire TechNet! - (Maybe there's still a chance for hope, over 12,300+ strong and growing)

Perhaps your account is still unverified (even though you should get a notice about that). You can try posting in the verification thread here to see if that helps:

Click on the Add attachments button under the post you are adding to the forums tool. On the Add Attachment popup, click on the Choose File button. Locate the image you'd like to attach to your post in the file explorer window and click Open. Press Continue.
