Career Paths?

Question

Hello. I'm a young college student at the moment, and my family has been suggesting I look into a career in technology. I love everything about computers and excel at grasping new topics, and can easily see myself having a job of this type. My question is where should I start? General technical support, or server networking and administration? Which area of expertise is most in demand in the job market right now, and which will be most needed in the future?Wednesday, February 3, 2010 4:40 PM

Hi, as you know there are so many topics around Microsoft Techs so my advice would be to feel first what you like most, is it general technical stuff, or would you like to learn developing, be an admin tech or something else? Start with mainstream where theres always work opportunities, and specialising afterwards. One thing gives another.
Luck to you!

A couple of sites to start you off with. First, Microsoft's "Thrive" - http://www.microsoft.com/click/thrive/
Next up, Microsoft's Learning site - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/default.aspx - You'll find lots of information on their various certifications and such.
If you're in your early years in college, check out what general courses they may have with to hardware/server/client OS. Having a degree plus certifications will be a definite benefit.- Marked as answer by Rubel Khan Thursday, February 11, 2010 8:50 PM
