Office 365 Home - Word: Freezes upon opening

Several years ago I purchased Office 2010 Professional which included Word 2010. Last Year I purchased Office 365 Home, but have been unable to open Word. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 several times but the problem with Word remains. Whenever I open Word, the display shows Document1 (compatibility model) Word is not responding. Is there a way to repair this product? Might there be a conflict with Word 2010? What do you suggest?
