Activation issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been successfully using an activated version of Vista Home Premium since February. After installing some new software/drivers for my graphics card today a message popped up saying "windows was deactivated due to a hardware change". I'm told that I have 3 days to activate Windows before it stops working. Unfortunately, in putting in my product key for activation (the one on the Vista box) I'm told that it's "already in use" (obviously, by my activation in Feburary).

After reading through some support forums, it appears this has happened to a few people through hardware updates/changes. Can someone advise how I may combat this issue swiftly.

    All the best,

    Andy

  • Please try phone activating.  You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4" in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.  The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.  Let me know if you run into any snags.  Thanks!

  • Doing it via the phone told me that the key was "already in use". However, I was able to call and get a rep on the other line and he sorted everything out - so all is now good.
