Thinkpad Windows XP licence being reinstalled ... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a ThinkPad with a license of Windows XP that was purchased with the computer.

I now run Windows XP on that laptop with the license key on the bottom of my ThinkPad from within a virtual machine on the same computer.  Now Windows Genuine Advantage says that I don't have a valid windows license?!? despite the fact that I'm using the same Windows XP key, on the bottom of my laptop?!?  How is this possible?  How can I get Windows Genuine Advantange to recognize my copy on my machine as legitamate?

  • Your OEM Windows XP license can only be installed on the computer it originally came with.  You cannot use that same license in a virtual machine.
Installing Windows XP in a virtual machine would require the purchase of a new license.
