Windows Home Server console slow and freezes up RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an HP Ex470 mediasmart server, has 500meg RAM.
I am running a fast Windows Vista desktop with 4 gig ram.

In old posts some suggested removing media connect software, some suggested right clicking on software and selecting unblock (which I tried but dont see that option in the drop down list.

What if I just add more RAM to my server?
Also, what will I be giving up if I remove the media connect software?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Adding more RAM is the best way to improve the performance of the EX470 line from HP. There's an article on homeserverhacks.com that will walk you through the process...

  • Yes Ken I see you help many of us out there with your suggestions and I appreciate that.
I had seen that page and have bookmarked it for consideration.
I'm pretty handy so taking apart my system doesn't scare me.

Maybe I will give it a shot.

Still don't understand what the media connect software does and what I would give up if I remove it?

  • Windows Media Connect is the streaming media server that Microsoft included in Windows Home Server. You will not be able to stream many media types if you remove it. For more information about media streaming, see the Media Sharing technical brief, and the HP documentation (because they include additional media streaming capabilities).
