Beginning the MCITP Certification RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm a moderately experienced computer user, and I'm looking at getting started with the MCITP Certification to start a career as an IT professional. I've done some basic home things for Windows computers, such as formats, installation of the Windows OS, and routine maintenance. Like many self-taught computer techs, I have gaps in my knowledge, and going this route would help me solidify them.

My question is more a request for advice. The first exam I looked at for starting on the MCITP path is exam 70-680, Windows 7: Configuring, but I'm a little confused as to how the exams count toward certifications. Does each exam award its own certification, in addition to counting toward the final MCITP certification? Is this the exam I should begin on, or is there another I should take? I have no experience with server work, though I'm buying the MCTS Self-Paced training kit for exam 70-680, and visiting my local library regularly.

I'm sorry to have to ask these questions here, but the information on MS's website is sparse and convoluted, so I was hoping people who've gone through these exams can help me get on the right track, at least to start, and help me understand the process toward gaining the MCITP.

  • If you pass this exam you'll get your MCTS: Windows 7, Configuration certification and this exam also counts as credit toward the following certification(s):

    • MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
    • MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7
    • MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7

Yes, each exam awards its own certification

Is this the right exam for you to start with?  It really depends on your knowledge and whether you believe you know the skills being measured http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?id=70-680#tab2
