Upgrading CRM 3.0 to CRM 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm wishing to upgrade my CRM 3.0 (10 user) system to a CRM 2011 Workgroup 5 user installation. I understand that this must be done by upgrading to CRM 4.0 then from 4.0 to 2011. The problem I have is the reduced number of  user licences. Although CRM 3.0 is a 10 user system there are actually only 4 active users, the others are deactivated. The upgrade to 4.0 stops when it finds the the prior version has more users. I know that users can't be deleted so is there any way around this? I know I can export my clients and actvities to file and re-import to a new installation but this will loose my attached documents I expect.

  • Hi David, I'm not a big fan of the Workgroup Edition since it's impossible to ever add a 6th user.

However, you could use a trial license of CRM 2011 Enterprise Edition to complete the upgrade. CRM 2011 has a new feature which allows you to delete a user (not just deactive a user, which was a limitation of CRM 3.0 and 4.0, as you've stated). Then redeploy the CRM 2011 Enterprise Edition system into your production CRM 2011 Workgroup Edition system.

    Hope this helps.
