What are the names of Windows XP Home Edition system files that are used to boot the system? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an old desktop PC running on Windows XP.  I found a download that seems to use old DOS files in order to perform an Emergency Boot for an XP operating system.

The selection of DOS files is very similar to files I compiled from multiple sources, not all of which are strictly DOS files. This selection worked very well to fix multiple types of "problems".

This "old selection" includes files named MSDOS.sys, IO.sys, and Command.com..., among other programs taken from other utilities I used years ago.

Now, my question. What are the names of the system files used by Windows to create a Windows XP emergency boot disk?

I'm not really interested in fixing my hard drive(s), I just want my hard drives TOTALLY WIPED CLEAN!!  I'd still like an answer from my earlier question about system file names.
