I cannot close my hotmail account.

General discussion

I have being going nuts. Literally in circles since last night. There is no clear way to cancel this account. I click on the cancel account link under additional options. It then states the following:
- One or more paid services or a Microsoft Points account is linked to your account. To close this account, make sure each service is canceled and your Microsoft Points account is closed. Get help with this
- There is a Microsoft e-mail account (Windows Live Hotmail) associated with your account, so you can't close your Windows Live account immediately. To close your Windows Live account, you need to close your Microsoft e-mail account first. After a period of inactivity, your Windows Live account will automatically be closed. Close your Microsoft account
To close your Windows Live Hotmail account, you must first cancel your billing service. Go to Microsoft Account and Billing Services at https://billing.microsoft.com .
SO, I click on this link and it states that I have a Zuma Deluxe service still enabled. The service description is this:
A non-refundable, one-time charge of USD19.95 (plus tax where applicable) permanently unlocks this game for unlimited off-line play. Visit https://shop.zone.msn.com/Zone/en-US/showkeys.aspx for a list of the keys you have purchased.
Fair enough, I did purchase this but I no longer play this game nor do I have it on my laptop any longer. It was purchased back in 2004!!
SO, there is a link to cancel this service and I click on it and of course it is just not that easy. clicking on this link brings up the microsoft billing and account management HELP PANE & FAQ which has a variety of links that do eff all. I need to TALK to microsoft support but of course I cannot find a god damn phone number.

Guys,
having just spoke to 'an expert' via a customer service line he strongly suggested that you open up a NEW hotmail/live account (which you'll never use) and redirect all your current registered applications to the new address, then your old account will be free to delete!
I know you'll still have an account but atleast your old one can be closed off...
Hope this kinda helps...

That *is* the solution. You cannot close an account if there is an active Billing subsription associated with it. if that is not your situation, take your discussion to the Hotmail forums -- http://windowslivehelp.com

If you have an active subscription for things such as xbox, Zune, or any other Microsoft subscription based service, that would be what you would need to do. You cannot close a Hotmail account or LiveID if there is an associated active Billing account tied to it.
