    All,

I have my machine currently with 2 750 gig drives. My motherboard has only 2 SATA connectors. Additional drives would be IDE. The whs box has been up for a week. I have not yet transfered my pictures movies and music, so a rebuild is not to big a deal. If its all the same, I would rather leave it alone and expand using IDE. My question is, is there any down side to using IDE at this point, or should I rebuild and use sata exclusively?

    Thanks

  • Theoretically, SATA is faster than PATA, and SATA II faster yet. There are no consumer drives available that will saturate even the PATA bus, though, so I doubt that you'll see any problems.

  • That said current generation boards are starting to show up without PATA connectors (i35 etc)
