Firewall randomly turns off RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently noticed that my firewall is shut off randomly during the day and I have to manually turn it back on.  Before I go onto the Internet I check and about 50% of the time the firewall is off.  I have no problem turning it back on, but how can I stop this from happening?  I have Vista on my laptop and XP on another computer.  This only happens on the laptop.

  • Henry,

Are you running any other antivirus or anti-spyware programs along with Windows Live One Care?  Many times these programs can conflict with the Windows Live OneCare firewall.  It is recommended to disable or uninstall any other AV/antispyware programs and not run them simultaneously.  Do you currently have the Windows Defender enabled on your Vista machine?  One Care already has Windows Defender integrated in the program.  This could possibly be causing problems.

  • If you have no other security software on the PC that may be causing this problem with the OneCare firewall, I'd suggest contacting OneCare support -

You can also try the Firewall Repair tool, but that typically is used when the firewall is broken and will not start.

  • Hi, I have been encountering the same  problem and even after using the Firewall Repair Tool, I still occasionally find my Firewall turned off when I go online. No other firewall- or other software is installed  on this Vista Home Premium besides

I thought this was supposed to prevent infections; several times, an "HP update" dot exe program named  CEEment  offered itself for installation. I always clicked " remind me later"  until an HP tech.  confirmed that this is NOT

one of their  programs. I am waiting for this false update to reoffer itselffor installation so that I can block it. Can it hurt anything in the meantime? Thanks
