Auditing/monitor file changes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'd like to be able to run a report on which files have been deleted or changed on WHS shares, I believe this can be done via Group Policy on WS 2003; can it be done on WHS natively or is there an add-in or app that can do this?

  • There's nothing built into Windows Home Server to expose that information to the end user, so it's unsupported. You can turn security auditing on, but you'll find that it will quickly create so much information that the logs are fairly useless. If you decide to go in this direction, you can use the standard Windows Server 2003 interfaces to enable this.

Why do you need security auditing on a home server, if I might ask? Presumably you trust your family/friends?

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
