problem restoring a deleted file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using SyncToy in "Echo" mode to keep a local folder updated with the information from a network drive.  The "network drive" is the left folder and the "local folder" is the right one.  I'm almost satisfied, except for one major problem:  If a file on the local folder gets "accidentally" deleted (let's call it FileX), it does not get restored by SyncToy.  I have not been able to find a workaround...  I noticed that the same happens if I set the pair to "Contribute" instead of "Echo".

I've also noticed that if I change FileX on the network drive, then it will be recreated on the local folder.

Without this ability, I can't use SyncToy...  FYI, I'm using the latest version (2.0.100.0)

Has anybody run into this problem???

  • Hi -
I am assuming here that you mean any chanfe to the file on the local folder ( Right hand side) of the folder pair - that file is not updated from the "network" folder on the left hand side. This is by design - echo sync just means that all changes on the left are propagated to the right - it does not mean that any changes on the right will be overwritten by the "golden copy" on the left.

    Thanks

  • Hey,

When using "Echo" mode, New and updated files are copied left to right. Renames and deletes on the left are repeated on the right. Since the local folder is the “right” folder in your setting, I think “Echo” is working as expected. Unfortunately, Automatically restoring  local deletion isn’t supported by SyncToy 2.0.

    Thanks,
