  • Uninstall One Care, run the install cleanup tool - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2 then install One Care. When you begin the activation process create a new Live ID and you should be able to complete activation.

  • What happens when you enter the product key? Do you get a message that says "product key is already in use", or "invalid product key" or some other message?

  • If you are getting an error about the key being invalid, you are mistaking at least one character or you have a misprinted key. The latter is very rare, though it can happen.

I hate the font that they use for the key - some characters are miserable to discern. J and I look all too much alike, as do O and 0.

I recommend that you use a magnifying glass to check the characters closely - I find that I need to do this. If you are still encountering a problem with activation, you have about 2 weeks to get activated, so I'd go ahead and open an email request to support, explaining the problem. See the FAQ and use the Trial user option to start the email request. If you can provide a digital image - scan or photo - of the key to the tech that responds, they can validate the key for you.

  • I think part of the problem is that my id is still stuck with qwest or something.

  • If it isn't asking for a product key, and you are signing in with a LiveID that has a subscription on it, expired or active, you won't be prompted for a key.

Use a *different* LiveID - one that has no OneCare subscription. Create a new LiveID at http://account.live.com and activate with that new LiveID - you will be given the option to enter your key.

If the activation dialog already contains a LiveID from a prior attempt or one used in trial mode, but this is not the one you need to activate with to associate it with your subscription, see this post for how to reset this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2776450&SiteID=2

Nope did not work I tried to activate with my daughters acct, and still nothing and I have a bunch of added computers now as it keeps adding my laptop every time I try something, and the program to remove a computer does not work; I wonder if Microsoft will ever pull their heads out I wish I could get a refund.

  • Where are you seeing the laptop showing up multiple times?

    Have you contacted support?
