Dynamic Disk Fixed? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I haven't been a OneCare user because of the incompatibility with dynamic disks, but it is no longer a problem with Beta v2. Just wanted to see if others have found the same thing.

Now I just have to figure out why the system stops responding to input after a period of inactivity which mysteriously started happening after I installed OC Beta.

  • I have not heard if the firewall functionality has changed for 2.0 in regards to Dynamic Disk partitions. If it is working for you perhaps it has.

On the other hand, the system unresponsive isn't a good thing.

  • Unfortunately, we have not been able to solve this particular issue for 2.0 release.

We are considering it for 2.5.

    Thanks

  • I could use this functionality for I had to "upgrade" to dynamic disk to extend one of my partitions.  Had I known of this problem beforehand, I would have just created a new partition.  *sigh* Such is life when working with computers!

And ideas when 2.5 will be out (in beta)? or if this will be added to 2.0?

    Thx,

  •

Sorry, can't share 2.5 dates yet.

Unfortuatenly, this fix is unlikely to make in 2.0.

    Thanks

  • Dont install if you have your HD set up to run Dynamic Disk. really messed up one of my machines. I used a MS download that would change my Dynamic Disk back to Basic, oh my god it really has me baffled. Now my IE wont even load at all, will not let me change the default Home Page. Dont use One Live Care if your PC HDs are set up to Dynamis disk.

  • I hope the aspirin helped. I've never used the utility to convert a Dynamic Partition to Basic as the safest way to do this is to back up the entire partition, delete the Dynamic partition and create and format a new one before putting your data back on the partition. If the OS is on the Dynamic partition, things get even trickier and you typically face a complete drive wipe and OS renstall to change to Basic.

  • This is really unbelievable.  There should be some kind of bright red flashing warning if you have dynamic paritions displayed before you install onescare.

It works great on the laptop, but my main PC remains unprotected.  Any fixes for windows firewall?  Can I at least use that?

  • The Windows Firewall works fine with Dynamic Disk partitions. However, if you disable the OneCare firewall in favor of the Windows Firewal, your status will go to red and it will keep enabling itself again. Your choices are to switch to Basic partition type or use a different antivirus solution along with the Windows Firewall.
