New hardware wizard keeps appearing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had a problem for a while with the new hardware wizard popping up and insisting that there is new hardware on my computer, even though there is not. I have located the device which appears to be my modem. It is coming up:

    creative modem blaster di5733-1

I have looked at my modem, and it is actually called Speedtouch 536.

Should I install the recommended drivers for this creative modem blaster thing, or just disable the problem in device manager? I'm afraid it will stuff up my internet connection.

  • (I'm guessing that this is a Windows XP or Vista question, rather than a Windows Home Server question (what these forums are for), but...)
The Speedtouch modem is an external (USB-connected) DSL modem.
The modem that keeps coming up is an internal (PCI) modem card.
    Your options are:
    1- install the drivers; or
2- remove the modem.  (remember to shut down the PC, and pull the power cord, first.)
Your choice.  Neither option will stuff up your internet connection.
