Hosting CRM 2011 Customer Portal RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm looking at getting the CRM 2011 Customer Portal on a hosted platform, this is what i've found in the 'Customer Portal Deployment Guide_OnPremises_V2.0' doc.

Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008

IIS 7.0 with Integrated pipeline mode is recommended

Has anyone else got any other recommendations?

Also has anyone else hosted in the UK and who with?

    cheers, everyone

  • Can you try using the PortalGen.exe tool that is part of the Customer Portal and Partner Portal technical previews? Until the final version of the portals is released, we need to use PortalGen to generate custom xrm.cs.

  • The portalgen.exe tool is not part of the released version of the portals.  Any modern hosting company should be able to host the portal for you as it is a standard ASP.NET application.  The only additional requirement would be that the server should have WIF installed in the GAC as there is a known bug in ASP.NET that would make the portal run very slow when you hook it up with ACS.  The other thing is that you also want to install the GDR update to fix the bugs in Windows Server 2008 R2 service pack 1 that were introduced with the extensionless url routing feature.  See http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3556.  Personally, I would recommend hosting the site in Windows Azure in the EMEA data center.
