  • We purchased Office 2003 over a year ago at our local Best Buy.  It was in the original sealed package from Microsoft and was not labeled as a group product.

We only started having problems with Office 2003 maybe three months ago.  What information do you need in order to fix this error?

  • Hello JandNLarson,

Have you ever had to take your machine into a computer store for repairs?  Sometimes if software needs to be reinstalled the correct product key may not be used in error when installing this software which could lead to the sort of issues you are experiencing.  Can you please tell me if these numbers match the last 10 digits of the product key you have for Microsoft Office: 6J4MT-3HFDY?

    Thank You,

  • No.  The product key on our software is *****-*****-*****-8FJJV-VFX9R.

Does this mean we need to uninstall and reinstall it?  And is this possibly the reason we have problems with PDF Create! and PDF Converter (both from ScanSoft)?  We have had problems with those programs since we began having issues with Microsoft Office.

Thanks for your help with that!

  • The registry does not give product keys in the format from the CD.  It gives them in binary format.  I don't know how to translate that, which means I don't know what to change.

I don't want to copy anything from my registry into this forum.

    Help!

  • Hi Nicole,

I'm sorry to hear that did not work for you, I would recommend you completely uninstall Office from Add or Remove Programs found in the control panel and then reference Knowledge Base (KB) article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.  This will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and provides detailed information on its use. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs 2003 and below (NOT 2007 OFFICE) on your computer, then reinstall Microsoft Office using the genuine MS Office installation CD and product key.  Using the Windows Installer Celanup Utility will make sure all information regarding your previous installation of Office is removed, if you do not see Office listed in this Utility then you may skip this step and attempt to reinstall Office.  Please let me know if this resolves your issue.
