Help Windows 7 build 7601 not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought this laptop of of amazon almost a year ago, then after an update today I got the "this copy of Windows is not genuine" build 7601. I did not get an activation code from the seller so I have no way of trying to re activate the windows. Is there anything I can do besides buying a new copy of windows 7?

  • The installed Product Key is a KMS one - which requires activation against a private Activation server every 180 days, at most.

If this Key was installed at the time of the machine's sale, then the vendor broke the licensing terms, and the installation is therefore counterfeit.

The installed Office license is a Volume-only edition, as well - Enterprise - and is almost certainly also counterfeit unless you acquired it through your college or employer.

You should have a COA sticker in the battery compartment - if so, for what version and edition of Windows is it valid?

You will have to reformat and reinstall whichever OS you find the COA sticker for - you can either order a set of Recovery disks from Dell, or download an ISO file for the proper version and edition -

Download the SP1 Refresh for your language and edition from the links on these pages...

The links are for downloads from the Digital River server run for MS.

If there is no COA sticker, then you will have to purchase a new Full license for whatever version and edition of OS you want to use.
