Unable to subscribe for OneCare RRS feed

  • Have tried repeatedly to pay for subscription but get recurring error message 8179 - unable to connect to billing server. Support services (Frank) gave me a phone No to purchase by phone but they don't do that.  They gave me the store.microsoft.com address which of course I can't use from Australia without an Americat Zip code.  Have tried direct purchase from Microsoft australian Site as well as Subscribe now from Live OneCare screen all with the same result.  Am using XP Pro SP2 (Can't load SP3) from several different PCs all with trial versions of Live OneCare that are about to run out of their trial period.  We have several PCs using Live OneCare but you need a Live ID for every 3 PCs. Last successful subscription was on 3/4/09 but since then only failures.  What else can I do?

  • The 8179 is a server error and should be temporary. Have you tried to purchase directly from here - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-au/purchase/default.htm

  • You might also want to look into picking up one or more retail copies (1 for each 3 PC subscription you need) as that would likely be cheaper than the full retail price online.
    Have you tried different LiveIDs?
    What is the reason you cannot upgrade XP to SP3? You will need to do that eventually as it will show you at risk if you don't update.
    Please let us know if the 8179 error persists.
