Picklist Values

Question

Quick question.
Is it okay to change the default values when creating a global picklist in CRM 2011? So instead of the 800500000, 800500001, 8005000002, I replace that with 40, 50, 60, because these values make more sense for data to be entered for the picklist. Thanks for any recommendations.

As per the implementation guide..
You can edit the Value, but we recommend that you accept the auto-generated value. The value must be unique within the options.

As Mamatha mentioned, Microsoft says thats it is advisable to use auto-geneated values to keep it unique.
Just to add, make sure you are not changing this value on optionset which already has records. That might impact your existing values.

Thanks for the confirmation guys, I appreciate it. This is a new picklist which will have unique values and since it is new I am not concerned about impacting existing values. I just really wanted to know if there is anything from Microsoft that strictly says you should only use the auto generated values and cannot use your own. I think I have a clearer picture now. Thanks to both.Wednesday, February 19, 2014 9:28 PM
