Picklist Values RRS feed

  • Question

  • Quick question.

Is it okay to change the default values when creating a global picklist in CRM 2011? So instead of the 800500000, 800500001, 8005000002, I replace that with 40, 50, 60, because these values make more sense for data to be entered for the picklist. Thanks for any recommendations.

  • As per the implementation guide..

You can edit the Value, but we recommend that you accept the auto-generated value. The value must be unique within the options.

  • As Mamatha mentioned, Microsoft says thats it is advisable to use auto-geneated values to keep it unique.

Just to add, make sure you are not changing this value on optionset which already has records. That might impact your existing values.

  • Thanks for the confirmation guys, I appreciate it. This is a new picklist which will have unique values and since it is new I am not concerned about impacting existing values. I just really wanted to know if there is anything from Microsoft that strictly says you should only use the auto generated values and cannot use your own. I think I have a clearer picture now. Thanks to both.
