Active Directory Authentication coming for CRM Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi There,

Does anyone know anything about CRM Online beginning to offer a choice between Active Directory authentication and Windows Live authentication? I'm working with a customer who wants to know what to expect if they start with LiveID, can they move to AD authentication later once they've started with LiveID?

    Thanks,

  • I am sure that if it was ever implemented that MSFT would make compatible with what people have with them already for CRMOnline.  It would take mapping though.  A more likely future situation (in my mind) would be that windows or active directory starts providing seamless windows live authentication in coordination with active directory, so the seamless mapping happens on your domain end.

On the main thought though, I have not heard any plans to implement this type of authentication on CRM Online.  2011 just came out and it doesn't have it so I would say that it would be at least a year or more before something like this could or would happen.  If this happenned I wouldn't expect it until at least Windows 8.  They are trying to make it more "cloudy" and they are adopting the silverlight interface from windows phone in conjunction with the current desktop.

All speculation at this point though.

  • Thanks Jamie - I wasn't aware of any plans either. I'm working on a fairly large implementation, and the customer seems to have been told by Microsoft that Active Directory authentication will be available very soon (IE in Q3 2011 some time). I was a bit surprised, but I haven't been able to find anything about it. I haven't been paying much attention to Office 365 and the merging of CRM Online into that suite, so I thought maybe I had just got behind on the news about AD auth that would come with it. I know the rest of the Online Services can federate with AD. Are you sure there's no planned functionality as CRM Online becomes part of Office 365?

    Thanks,

  • Jim Glass - please don't mark a post as an answer when I've asked a follow-up question.

Office 365 - there's no planned AD integration with CRM Online planned with it becoming a part of that product group?

    Thanks,

  • Thanks Jamie! I hadn't thought so either - but I thought maybe I had missed something.

    Best,
