Missing feature after upgrade to genuine Windows XP RRS feed

  • Question

  • The other day I helped a friend update to genuine Windows XP from a newly purchased CD. Everything seemed to go OK, but now after start-up and log in she gets a window entitled Status with message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'status' disk and click OK."

Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?

  • Hello hollycroft,

Probably a remnant from an installation of a Hewlett-Packard printer.

  • Hello hollycroft,

Unless you are receiveing a Non-genuine message from XP, this issue is not WGA related. I suggest posting your question in one of the Windows XP Newgroups (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups.mspx) .

    Thank you,

  • Many thanks, Dan. You were spot on. I've been back to visit my friend & have uninstalled an old HP printer. All is fine now.
