Windows 7 Pro "not genuine" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

One of the clients I am supporting was using a Lenovo E420 laptop with pre-installed Windows 7 Professional. His background went black and it reported that the version of Windows he was using was "not genuine". I ran the validation tool and it returned that the Windows version was an "evaluation" copy and it has expired. This laptop was in stock for a while and was recently assigned to this employee about a month ago.

I could not find the windows product key sticker anywhere on the laptop to re-enter it into the Activation screen.

    Here is the MGADiag report:

  • It looks like you reinstalled an OEM OS with Retail media.  You need to use the COA Key that is listed on the Retail install sticker or redo the installation with Recovery Media from Lenovo.
