Led Zeppelin going to GAC HoldingArea RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been using Mesh with three computers for quite some time.  I sync business apps from a laptop to desktop and music between laptop, desktop and media center.  I noticed some music files were getting duplicated or wrong information on the mp3 tag was being entered.

The incorrect mp3 tag was probably due to iTunes and WMP auto correcting.  I've since turned that off.

Last week I went to fix the mp3s on the "master" location, my desktop.  All was going well until I noticed my Led Zeppelin kept disappearing.  The Led Zeppelin folder and it's songs were filed really erratically.  I had to delete some folders, rename folders, rename mp3 filenames, etc.

Now, my Led Zeppelin keeps disappearing to the GAC\HoldingArea.  If I move them to the Led Zeppelin directory, they just return to GAC\HoldingArea.  I'm sure there's some tombstone craziness going on.  How do I fix it?

  • They are going to the HldingArea because there's a conflict of some sort that Live Mesh needs you to resolve. You can see the conflicts in the notifier/news or via the Live Desktop for the affected folder.
You can also resolve this by changing the sync settings to not sync this folder any longer with any device, deleting the folder from the Live Desktop and then adding the folder back into the Mesh on the "master" machine after correcting the contents to your satisfaction. You can then allow the folder to sync to the other devices, merging the contents and dealing with any residual conflicts that may arrise from the sync. However, I'd probably manually copy the corrected folders/files to the other devices manually before adding the fodler(s) back to the Mesh to avoid creating new conflicts when merging.

  • I figured it was some king of sync quirkiness.  I think my conflicts are too numerous to fix.  Besides, I keep creating more as I am going through the "master" music and fixing tags, filenames etc.  I'm going to stop syncing with Mesh then resync.

So how should I go about this?
Stop all sync associations.  Fix the master.  Then resync?
    Or
Stop all sync associations.  Fix the master.  Delete all other music files on other computers.  Then have Mesh readd the music?
    or some other order?

  • I'd do it via the first choice, with one possible modification.
Change Sync settings to not sync the folder(s) on the Live Desktop with these PCs.
    Fix the master copies.
Use SyncToy to manually sync to the other PC and get the files to be in perfect sync.
Change the sync relationship again to sync with these PCs and use the browse button to merge the offered folder with the existing folder. Since you already synchronized via the LAN using SyncToy, the sync should happen reasonably quickly without conflicts.
