Hi CarolMacDonnell,
The error code 0x80070426 (seen in your Diagnostic Report) tells me that the Software Licensing Service has stopped (i'm unsure why). So you can let your mum off the hook, this wasn't caused by her not Activating (or Validating) in time.
The Software Licensing Service is a part of Vista that is supposed to run when Vista boots up. the Service helps Vista confirm that Vista is Genuine. So if it isn't running, Vista can't tell if it is Genuine or not. It's rare, but sometine the service just stops for no reason that I know of. First try rebooting (maybe a few times) and if you still receive the error, try the below steps:
If you have acces to the Start button:
1) Click the Start button
2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field
3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe
4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc
If you do not have access to the Start button:
1) Click the option Access computer with reduced functionality
2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field
3) Find the file cmd.exe
4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc
If this does not resolve your issue or if you receive any error when you enter the command net start slsvc, then open a (no cost) support request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029 and they should be able to help you get the service started again.
Thank you,
Darin Smith
