Tom,
There is nothing you can see directly to get your product key from the machine. There are however, 3rd party applications available that would be able to do this. We are unable to recommend any of them since it would be against our policy. A well phrased search in your favorite search engine should provide you the applet you are looking for.
Also hope this will provide more insight for your assistance :-).

Hello Tom,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Forum. The purpose of this forum is the support of Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program. Tom did your computer come with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) stick on your system @ the time of purchase? Who is the manufacturer of your computer or is it a custom built system? Please contact the Technical support section for the manufacturer of your system. Explain your situation and request their guidance. Should your computer be a custom built machine you will have a different approach.
Please review the following Knowledge Base (KB) article, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/326246, “How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and product upgrades, or replace product manuals.
If your XP Pro CD was a system builder/OEM CD, request a replacement from your system builder. If they cannot help, order a replacement from Microsoft:
Europe, Middle East, Africa: http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/7/b/37b3b0ed-a2b2-4ee4-b2ad-a43eb8b11a26/emea%20end%20user%20media%20replacement%20form-final.doc
This article describes how to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and product upgrades, or replace product manuals. The Microsoft Supplemental Parts team is available to help customers in North America who need any of the following:
•
Replacements for Microsoft software or hardware
•
Service packs on CD
•
Product upgrades
•
Replacement product manuals
Please review the KB article in its entirety ensuring you are eligible for replacing the product in question. Thank you.
Also if you have lost, broken, or misplaced your original Microsoft Office or Microsoft Publisher installation CD, you can order replacement media from Microsoft @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302822/en-us.
Thank you and have a great weekend.
