Project 2010 PWA site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Morning Folks,

I have been able to create the PWA site in sharepoint 2010/project server 2010 without issue.  When I click the pwa site link though I recieve a Correlation ID error: 9464e1ca-5419-4ea2-a7ae-e4efbaad9690 an unexpected error has occured.  I did not recieve any errors or issues creating the DB, creating the pwa site in the new content db ect.

    Any thoughts from the comunity?

    Derek

  • Thanks Gray:

I will replace the third step with the following:

    • Create new Project Server Service Application with appropriate permission.
    • Change the association of the Project Service and the PWA web applications to the 'custom'.
    • In the application proxy group, Set project server service application as default.
    • Try to browse the PWA and observe the behaviour.

  • Hi Derek,

The correlation ID relates to a specific set of log messages in the ULS logs. Check the logs for any reference to the correlation ID referenced and this should give you an idea of what is happening.

The logs themselves can be quite hard to read, so I recommend using a tool such as ULSViewer which is available at http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/ULSViewer

If you are still having issues, please post the relevant ULS entries in this thread and we'll see if we can help.

    Hope this helps,

    Alex

  • Hello Derek998899

Set the PWA as a trusted site and see if that fixes the problem.

    Cheers!

  • Derek:

Did you grant access to your top level site when you created it? If not, follow these steps:

To navigate to the root site, enter “http://<servername>” in your browser.

    1. The system displays the homepage of your new site.
    2. On your root-site homepage, click on the Site Actions menu and select Site Permissions. The system displays the Edit permissions page.
    3. Click the Grant Permissions button on the ribbon menu. The system displays the Grant Permissions window.
    4. In the Users/Groups text box, type “NT AUTHORITY\authenticated users” without the quotes, and in the Grant Permissions selection list, select Add users to a SharePoint group (recommended), choose the SharePoint for Project Server Visitors (Read) group for your top-level site, and click the OK button to continue. The system returns to the Edit Permissions page.

If this isn't the issue, then tell me exactly what you're using 'LINEAR\sp2010rtm' for. Is this your service account for everything?

  • If you go into Central Admin and go to the Upgrade status screen, does anything show as needing upgrade?  If so, you may need to run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, which runs all of the upgrade scripts.

    Try the following:

    1. Stop & Start Project Application service (Ensure the Project service started too)

    2. Ensure that the PWA web site has Service Application associations with Project server service application

    3. If possible delete Project Server Service Application, create new one with appropriate permission

    4. 'LINEAR\sp2010rtm'  - Add this account to local administrators group and check the status.

  • Sriram:

We could use the recommended steps required before deleting a Project Server Service applicaiton. In my experience, you cannot do this cleanly without deleting other system objects first, but I'm not certain what the prescriptions should be. If you can share these, it would be helpful.

  • Thanks for the clarification, this doesn't dispose of the old, possibly bad service application. Still looking for guidance on that.

  • Hi Everyone,

I know Christophe flagged this as answered but I have encountered a scenario that is not captured by this response.  I have a two box solution which will be used to provide demo instances of Project Server 2010 to various partners to use with their customers.  As a result I need data isolation even though the hosts are shared. The SQL box has two instances of DB Engine I14_C1 and I14_C2.  I created the first sharepoint instance with it's own Web Application on port :90, it's own site collection, content databases etc without any issues. Then I created the second instance with it's own (everything) including Web Application on :91.  The PWA site provisioned without any errors and the databases were created etc.  When I tried to hit the second PWA site on :91, I received an "unexpected error, correlation id xxxxx".  Every time I hit the site I received a different correlation error.  The ULS viewer showed more detail about the error but nothing specific.  I thought this was a bug so I applied the August update, rebooted everything, but still this did not correct the issue.  Trawling through the configuration I noticed that the "I14C2 App" Service Application was, by default, associated with the "default" proxy group which was associated with the Web Application on :90.  Go to Sharepoint Central Admin, Application Management, Service Applications and click "Configure service application associations".  I removed "I14C2 App" from the "Default" Proxy Group and used "custom" to assign it to the :91 Web Application.  This immediately corrected the problem.  It would seem that Project Server 2010 dumps the new Application Service, by default, in the the "Default" Proxy group regardless of any other configuration.  Maybe I missed a setting during the provisioning process that would have allowed me to set the proxy group to something else?  Anyway I hope this helps someone else, I noticed some other threads about this that were unanswered.

    Regards

    Wolfie
