Windows Validation Error [HELP] RRS feed

  • Question

  • my computer recently crashed and stopped working due to me messing around with msconfig and startup programs.  I managed to re-install the OS using a recovery disk I had made (thank god) I wiped my computers mind and completely started over.

Now windows is saying my copy isn't genuine, its a 5 year old laptop with the serial code sticker still on the bottom.  HP G62 Laptop

Answers

  • 1) yes thats what happens when I try and start the phone system, I found a number online to call and it activated fine.

    2) I set CHCKDSK to run at the next startup (rebooting after I finish posting this)

    3) SFC gives me the following error "windows resource protection could not start the repair service."

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation,
we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop -
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the
tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using
either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
    - **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your
COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside
the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

  • I did say to ignore the error message if you got one :) - it will still paste to your reply.

The sticker details you quote are not the right sticker - they are the manufacturer's model details, not the Microsoft Windows one.

  •  You say that the laptop is 5 years old - but the BIOS is only two years old, and Win7 has only been out for three years. If it really is 5 years old, then the sticker would be for Vista, not Windows 7, and would not even be accepted by the OS - and your report would therefore indicated the presence of either a counterfeit Key, or an Activation Exploit.

Having said that, the only real problem I see there is that it hasn't been activated yet, and is therefore out of the grace period.

You should use telephone activation and speak to an operator.

    telephone activation (operator calls)
     Click on the Start button
    in the Search box, type
    SLUI 4
     and hit the Enter key
follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you

once complete, validate teh installation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate, and then post a new MGADiag report.

  • EDIT:

I think you mis-understand, the computer has been using the same serial code since I got it.  Ever since I wiped its mind it suddenly decided that the code is wrong and not genuine

  • Ah - the error on the left is what happens when you attempt to use the automated phone system?

The one on the right you can close - it's not relevant.

I'll have to do some research, as I've not come across this before.

Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate (it will fail, but the mode of failure may tell us something).

Then post another MGADiag report - it should show more detail.

Also, perhaps a couple of basic system checks are in order....

Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
     type in the Search box

     CMD.EXE

right-click on the only file that is found
     Select Run as Administrator
     - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
     At the Command prompt, type

     CHKDSK C: /R

     and hit the Enter key.

You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.

The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size
of the drive, so be patient!

After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally
(possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFC

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions
     Click on the Start button
     type in the Search box

     CMD.EXE

right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
     At the Command prompt, type

     SFC /SCANNOW

     and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Post yet another  MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.

  • 1) yes thats what happens when I try and start the phone system, I found a number online to call and it activated fine.

    2) I set CHCKDSK to run at the next startup (rebooting after I finish posting this)

    3) SFC gives me the following error "windows resource protection could not start the repair service."

  • SLUI 4 uses a slightly different method to that from the one in your picture, so may have worked

    Ouch  that sounds painful :(

You'd best post about that in the Windows Answers forums - -

    Good luck!
