Product Key Will not allow Installation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am installing Windows XP on a clients computer that had XP installed when purchased. The product key on the label attached to the desktop will not allow it to be installed. It CANNOT be wrong because the number is taken directly from the sticker. I have tried using my own numbers and they won't work either. The disk I am using to install the OS is the original Microsoft XP disk not a copy. It is NOT an upgrade disk.

  • Some early Keys are not accepted when using SP3 disks.

an OEM Key can only be used with an OEM disk - so if your disk is a Retail one then it cannot be used with an OEM Key from a COA sticker

  • Please try using the Windows XP Product Key Update Tool. (click on the Windows XP tab to access it)
