Feel like and idiot! What look like an 8 in the poor lighting last night turns out to be a B! It works with that change!! Such an idiot. To all those having trouble change the 8's or the B's one at a time to the other and see what happens!!

Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 - 100 Genuine
It appears that the key installed but isn't activating. If so, I suggest starting the activation process and selecting activate by phone. You are going to need to speak to a real person, I suggest you try holding and not pressing any menu options to see if a real person answers. (this is the fastest way to speak to a person when activating windows, should be the same for office).

How do I get the phone option. I tried that and never got the option. I go to the options menu then validate and my only option is to enter a key.Friday, September 3, 2010 2:23 PM

Hello MarkZ1993,
When you get the "invalid product key" error when entering the product key during Office setup, there are only two causes for this problem:
1. You are entering the product key incorrectly. Note that in the font used for Product Keys, the letter "B" and the numeral "8" are easily confused. Microsoft product keys do not use the letters "I" and "O" nor do they use the numerals "1" and "0" because they are too easily confused.
2. There is a mismatch between the "sales channel/source" of the product key and the installation disc used for installation. Product keys are generated by algorithms that are matched to the version, edition, and sales channel of the product. This is what keeps you from installing and activating, for example, Office 2010 with a product key from Office 2003; it would also keep you from activating an installation of Office 2007 Professional (which sold for $499) with the product key for Office 2007 Home and Student (which sold for $149); and it would keep you from activating a full retail license for Office 2007 H&S (which can be installed on up to three computers in a household) with a product key for a systembuilder/OEM license for Office 2007 H&S (which is permitted to be installed on one computer only and cannot be moved to any other computer).
Assuming you are entering the product key correctly, is it possible that you may have mixed up the discs and the product keys?

I only have one disc for the product and no other office programs. I am entering B to start the key and have reviewed the number numerous times.Friday, September 3, 2010 3:03 PM

Hello MarkZ1993,
Please verify that the Invalid Product Key error is being show to you when you attempt to enter the product key into the Office Activation Wizard.
Have you ever successfully installed Office using the disc and product key you are trying to use now?
You mentioned "Entered key off of sticker on the box several different times and indicates it is invalid key". The product key for a retail Office package will be printed on a yellow-orange Proof Of License label affixed to the back of the pivoting tray inside the clear plastic package. In the lower right corner of this label, do you see "FPP" printed on the label?
