Virus RRS feed

I recived a virus from a media file I downloaded which took controll at boot.

I was running windows live one care but did not have real time anti virus protection running at the time.

    My question is,

Is there some protection we can get to prevent access to the reg?

I find the live care is not aways the 1st to load into the task bar as well?

I mean if line care were the 1st to boot and locked acess without premissions to the reg then these virus's wouldn't be aloud to boot before live care and would need premission to set the reg for them to load.

As the virus I recived had locked up live cares ability to scan for it. "Setting a bit for it already performing a task therefor having to end that task 1st?" To me this is a one care performance security issue.if they can tie up the antivirus scan and alow themself to boot 1st and continue to lock it up.

real time protection would have probly stopped it but ?

  • I've moved your post to the Anti-Virus topic folder.

If you are running OneCare - http://onecare.live.com and your status is green, you had/have real time protection enabled.

The icon in the system tray is simply the interface - winssUI (user interface) and it can load late in the process if your system has many startup programs loading and resources are limited. Protection is enabled early in the process. The firewall is up before the network connection is made, for example, and the real time protection is looking at all processes at startup.

If you are using Windows Live OneCare and you have been infected, but OneCare did not detect or cannot remove the malware, please contact support to report this and for help with removal.
