  • Question

  •

when I bought my computer, the guys at the store installed onecare but did not tell me the email address that they associated it to.  unfortunately every one of the help & support links asks for this information.

so what do I do since everything relys on this stupid piece of information and I was not made aware of it and the stupid store says that it is their policy not to keep this information.

I can get to my bank account by providing them with all kinds of alternate information besides my account number and yet this piece of software makes it impossible if one stupid piece of information happens to get lost.

can someone explain to me the reasoning behind this ridiculous situation or tell me how I can fix it?

  • If you still have access to your old computer open One Care>Help>About and you can see your Live ID. If you have a product key you can contact support and they can find the Live ID associated with your product key and help you to reset the password. How to reach support - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

I did some searching on this and found the above info. on the OneCare Forums. I did exactly what's stated above and found my I.D. or E-mail associated with OneCare Live.

Why? Open OneCare, click Help/About. Your subscription LiveID is shown there.

  • I at one point uninstalled OneCare.  Looked on my bank account the other day and they charged me for renewal so I figured I'd reinstall and get going again.  When I sign in with my Live ID it tells me there's no account/subscription associated with that live id.  I get the run around with the automated program on the phone and nobody answers the phone.

How do I find out what my Live ID is? Don't tell me to look in help/about because it says "your subscription is expired" but by golly Microsoft has $52.70 of my money.  Let me in!

  • Well, I have tried this but I guess I need my daughters PC. It was initially installed on it.  Also this OneCare was installed by some from Circuit City. My daughter and I were never told about this LIVE ID and how crucial it is.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate with.

If the activation dialog already contains a LiveID from a prior attempt or one used in trial mode, but this is not the one you need to activate with to associate it with your subscription, see this post for how to reset this - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2776450&SiteID=2

  • If your subscription was created with a LiveiD (email address) then that is your subscription LiveID and it can't be changed. If you mean that you have reinstalled OneCare and entered an incorrect LiveID and now need to clear this for activation see this post:

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. You can't use the same key twice. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

If you mean that you can't find the retail product key from the box and you do not have a subscription, I'm sorry to say that you are out of luck as that is the key to your initial subscription activation.

You cannot change your LiveID associated with the subscription. You can update your LiveID to reflect a new alternate email address at https://account.live.com
