Drives on your server aren't visible over the network. Shares are. You will have to create a share on your drive in order to expose it over the network. The best way to expose the space, thouugh, is to add it to your server's storage pool.

I took the drive from my USB backup set up (as the USB interface had failed but the drive and contents are OK) and was hoping to keep the contents intact (200 GB / avi home movie photo backups)
You know that you could add your drive to the server, but don't add it to the pool. You can then transfer it's files over to your shared folders. After that, you can go back, and add it into the pool.
