Money 2004 - Stopped Working

Question
-
Hello,
When I try to open a MSMoney file in Money 2004, it will not open and give the generic Microsoft Money has stopped working error. Is there a way to get the file to open? Here is what I have already tried:
-Restoring from a backup files
-Repairing the file with the repair utility
-Repair installing the software
-Fully reinstalling the software
-Running software as administrator
-Tried opening file file on another computer with a fresh installation
I am on Windows 7 Pro x64. Money 2004.
Any ideas?Tuesday, September 25, 2012 8:50 PM

Hi,
That's a tough spot. Do you have other backups, even an older one where you might have to re-enter transactions to get up to date again? As a long shot, perhaps try downloading Money Plus Sunset and try opening with a newer version of Money? My guess is your Money file is corrupt, the recourse is to go to another copy of the file.

Thanks for the replies, I will give both a try. It is for sure Money 2004, but I don't have any older backups unfortunately.Thursday, September 27, 2012 3:07 PM

This look like it did it! The file appears to open normally now. Thanks for the tip!Thursday, September 27, 2012 3:23 PM -
Keep a copy of the files you do have on other media. A disk crash would be unwelcome.
I don't know if Money 2004 works well with 64-bit Windows. You could install the appropriate version for your country using the link in the first post in this forum.
You could try making a repaired version of your *.mny file with
File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2.Thursday, September 27, 2012 3:27 PMModerator
