Valid but blocked?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Office 2007 Ultimate.  It validates for Genuine just fine.  I also have FrontPage 2003 (legitmate purchased copy) that has been activated.  It does NOT validate for Genuine, and the error says Microsoft has blocked the license used to install Office.  WHAT?????  I bought both of these.  I own a valid license for them.  What gives?  This is bad service.  I can't even download any Office Online templates with this issue.  How do I resolve it????????

I am sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is with Office and why it is not passing validation.  Unfortunately, the product key used to install Office Professional Edition is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VL editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and version of MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.

This is why you were seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of Office XP Pro is an unauthorized installation. You will need to uninstall Office before any further complications occur from being non genuine.

As a customer there are options available to you for a resolution.  First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please go back to where you purchased Office and let them know it is a counterfeit copy and demand they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy which was originally paid for. Print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the 114 Blocked VLK statuses.  In any case, please uninstall the non-genuine installation of Office to alleviate any complications which may arise from the non-genuine status of your Office.  Second, if you purchased this copy of Office from a reseller or retailer, you are a victim and should report this piracy to Microsoft. Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided. Reporting piracy to Microsoft will help alleviate others in becoming victims such as yourself. You may be eligible for a complimentary replacement copy if you were sold a high quality counterfeit copy of Office.  For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/. It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take.

  • Yo Stephen Wolf,

I think your Boiler Plate trigger happy and totally off your mark on this one! I have the exact same issue that we purchased license agreements for through a Corporation that licenses, develops and signs Microsoft Drivers for a living and are current friends of the Balmer. Not that weighs heavy but shows that even friends of the big bosses doing things legally  the "Microsoft Way" are having this same problem.

So tell me this, how can you tell these guys with absolute certainty that you are right and they are wrong and your reseller / partner vendor is selling pirated copies of Office and Windows? Ok, if you say so, I'll hop on the phone and tell our Vendor CDW that "hey, you know all those licenses we bought through the corporation? well you need to refund us like $10-20k now cause Microsoft say's your a bunch of crooks and should go to jail for your illegal software sales of Microsoft Software?????? Hmmm, maybe Balmer ought to make this call himself... or wait... wait just a second here.. maybe.. maybe you are wrong!!! yeah, that's it.. you haven't a clue what you are talking about Boiler Boy!

Hey, I can understand doing your job to the script but don't jump the gun so fast and start accussing big time partners of Microsoft like CDW crooks. It's not good for business and anyone over there knows that Microsoft does not like to conduct business like that. They might have tons of other Big Company problems but they don't go around calling vendors that spend so much time, money, development hours, partnering, selling and promoting Microsoft products Pirates!!!

  • Aplys,

Nowhere in his response did Stephen write or imply that vendor CDW is selling pirated copies of Microsoft software.

If you suspect that your organization may have been sold pirated or otherwise nongenuine installations of Microsoft Windows or Office, then please follow these steps for assistance:

Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

  • EGlazener,

Please uninstall MS Front Page and then try validating again.  Front page is coming up as blocked VLK 114. The diagnostic results show Office Ultimate as okay but still lets make sure all is well after you remove Front page and run the diag again.  If you have questions and feel the software please visit the business where you made the purchase.

    Thank you

  • Hello Mel,

When you ran the diagnostic test and discovered you were non-genuine you are given options where you may purchase a Windows Office Genuine Kit for a reduced cost.  Also you didn't post your full diag results. Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. We really need the full diag results in order to analyze the whole scenerio in order to provide guidance and/or a resolve. I have extracted a portion of your diagnostic results to review with you:

    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK

We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation. Unfortunately, the product key used to install your Office Suite is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VLK editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VLK editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.

If you want to keep Office installed on the computer, then your best option is to participate in the Genuine Office  Offer and purchase an OGA Kit. You will be emailed a Product Key that can be used immediately to "genuine-ize" your currently non- genuine installation of XP Pro, and then about 2-3 weeks later you will receive a genuine Microsoft Windows XP Pro full retail CD and CoA, which you can use to do a clean installation (recommended).

Also please review the Validation Advisor for further guidance at:

    https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ValidationHelp.aspx

First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer or operating system and let them know the operating system is a counterfeit copy.  Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the VLK status. Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you to report piracy @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx  who have become victims. Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided.  Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices.  You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs. We CANNOT determine the "Quality" level of non-Genuine submissions and cannot guarantee such a thing here on the forum. We have a 3rd party registered Cryptography lab who evaluates EVERY (really!) submission for the High-Quality Counterfeit replacement program - as they have a pre-determined subset of items they look for.

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

    Thank you,

  • EGlazener,

Please uninstall MS Front Page and then try validating again.  Front page is coming up as blocked VLK 114. The diagnostic results show Office Ultimate as okay but still lets make sure all is well after you remove Front page and run the diag again.  If you have questions and feel the software please visit the business where you made the purchase.

    Thank you

  • Aplys,

Did you forget to check spell check because the spelling of my last name appears wrong?  As far as being trigger happy with a Boiler Plate response sorry you feel this way. Provide me with your diag results and I would be more than happy to help you.  The information provided in the response gives customers options which they may do.  Did you read the Diagnostic results? If so you will see a blocked volume licensing key 114. We use tools to run the diagnostic report through which assists us in explaining to our customers in order to provide guidance. Also I never made any reference calling anyone a pirate. How am I to know where anyone purchases software unless they mention the location within their post?  Also we don't appreciate this type of hostile post in the open forums. Also VLKs aren't to be used on personal/individual systems. There are many situations why individual and/or VLK holders could have a compromised key. Hope this has shed some insight. Take care and have a wonderful day :-)

If you could respond to fourpoint_group@yahoo.com

                OGA Version: Registered, 1.6.21.0
                Signed By: Microsoft

    Thank you,
