  • Yes, this is an MSDN key. If you purchased it from any other source than an MSDN account of your own then it was sold to you in violation of the terms. If you can try to get your money back, file a claim, report the seller. Use whatever legal recourse applies. David can tell you if it is actually blocked, however even if it isn't yet it will undoubtedly be in the future.

  • Yes, it was an impulse eBay purchase.  It came in a package closely resembling the full retail package.  Are MSDN keys ever manufactured/sold this way, or is the whole package counterfeit?

My first step to resolve this using the ebay website was:

Under "Won/Purchased" select "more actions" on the specific item the "Resolve a problem".

They ask you to type a phrase in and the one that sent me to the right page was:

"I believe the item I purchased is counterfeit or not authentic"

I opened a case mentioning that the key was illegally resold and linked to someone else's development account with the manufacturer.  The functionality of the software is forever linked to an unknown third party's registration with the manufacturer.  The software is illegitimate, the functionailty is tied to an agreement broken by my receipt of the item.  Nowhere in the listing did it mention by purchasing the item, the item becomes counterfeit.

Seller was: jasonc15 from Franklin Park, New Jersey

  • They are never available as a retail purchase, legaly that is. The keys are part of a subscription and are only delivered through one method.
