Vail installed on a disk in one machine won't work on my mediasmart server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a HP mediasmart server EX490 which is obviously headless.  I wanted to install Vail onto it so removed the system disk, inserted it into my main PC and installed Vail.

Installation went fine and I could connect to the server disk from another PC and a Mac.

Replaced the disk into my Mediasmart server and the server doesn't appear to boot up.  I see no server appearing on the network and have one of the three lights blinking blue.

When I re-insert the disk into my other computer it comes up with a message saying repair or start normally.  If I start normally, Vail boots up fine.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

You can not just move an OS boot disk to another PC and then expect it to boot - unless maybe when the hardware on this PC is identical to the one you used to install the OS.

If you want to install VAIL on your EX490 you must install it directly to this machine.
