MSDN XP 64bit validation process does not complete. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear Sirs,

I am trying to validate my XP 64 bit SP2 (MSDN version) but I cannot complete the validation process. Windows activation worked fine, I have IE7 and all recent updates installed. Windows update also works fine.

I am recieving the message "Validation is not currently supported for this version of Windows or for this non-Microsoft operating system".

I've tried downloading the diagnostic tool but I keep getting the famous "The page cannot be displayed".

I've used the online diagnostic site and got the following result:

    Passed Active scripting allowed
    Passed Display images enabled
Passed Computer time and date correct
    Passed ActiveX enabled
    Passed Windows validation ActiveX loaded
    Failed Office validation ActiveX loaded
    Failed Validation Self-help ActiveX loaded

When I click "Resolve now" the info bar for installing the ActiveX does not show up even after repeated attempts. The info bar does show up in other web sites when trying to install ActiveX modules.

    Please advise.

  • Hi Ami,

WGA is not supported under Windows XP 64bit. No validation is required for 64bit when accessing the Windows Update site or the Microsoft Download Center (I beleive you will still need to click the Validation button to get to the download, but the site will then notice you as 64bit and pass you thru without validation).

Thank you for bringing this up as I now see that KB892130 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892130/en-us says "Products that are covered under WGA include all versions of Microsoft Windows XP..." this should read "Products that are covered under WGA include all versions of Microsoft Windows XP (except 64bit)...".  I will request that the KB be updated.

    Thank you!,

  • Ami:

Are you using the 64 bit or 32 bit version of your web browser?

    Validation requires 32 bit browsers.

    THanks!

Can you access www.download.microsoft.com? Our tools are hosted on microsoft download center and are avialable there. If you can't access the diagnostics tool http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 then you may be having an issue with your DNS servers access Microsoft websites Sad

  • Hi Carey,

    Thanks for your reply.

I've tried using regsvr as the KB suggests but that didn't help.

I lookes in the registry, the KB says the pattern should be VER-1234567-12345-12345 but in my registry the product id key is in the pattern 11111-222-3333333-44444, could that be the cause? if so, how to fix it?

I'm still unable to validate and get the same results in the diagnostics site.

    Thanks,

    Ami

  • Hi Darin,

    Thanks for your reply.

    That explains a lot

The issue is that I still can't download anything from the download site.

Although you are correct that it seems to pass the validation phase, i keep getting "the page cannot be displayed" error on all "validated" downloads.

It does not seem to have anything to do with my connection as the downloads are in the www.microsoft.com domain which I can access with no problems.

Only on the "validated" downloads I experience this issue. That's the reason I assumed it had to do with the validation itself.

Could you please refer me to where I can find help with this issue?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Phil,

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm using the 32 bit version.

The 64 bit version does not support flash and shockwave.

    Thanks,

    Ami

  • Ami:

Can you please run the diagnostics tool noted in the sticky post above, so we can take a look at what OS and details of your system to see what may be causing the conflict?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Guys,

Just to let everyone know I found the solution to my problem, it had nothing to do with my connection, it was IE7.

If you can't access download.microsoft.com, try resetting all IE7 settings:

Tools -> Internet options -> Advanced -> Reset.

    Now everyting works fine.

Thanks a lot for all your help.
