Ran MGA still don't know why Vista won't work or if our Vista was temporary or not RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, and thank you in advance for reading this long request.  When I purchased my laptop it came with Vista, but then it quit working. It has been over a year now, so I ran the MGA diagnostic, results follow, and because I am not tech savy, I really don't know what it means. It shows genuine and thats about all I know.  If someone/anyone would be so kind as to tell me if this version was just a trial, or if I should be able to be using it now, I would really appreciate it. My daughter has the same problem with her laptop (they are both Toshibas) and we have both been without a system except openoffice. I have been trying to figure this out for a long time, so again any help will be so appreciated!

You have a system which has apparently not been updated since purchase - it's still using Service Pack 1. You really need to keep your machine better updated, as it would help avoid the problems you've been having.
What Anti-Virus are you using? When was it last updated?

Initially, I suggest that you attempt manual Validation - it may help show more detail

go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and see what the validater has to say. If it fails, you should be offered the Diagnostics (direct link http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag ) - take that and see what they have to say, follow the instructions to get all green lights, and then retry validation.
Run another MGADiag report,, and post back with your results, and the information requested above.
