  • Hello copwin,

Adding a second blank HDD for extra storage will in no way affect your WGA validation status.

Adding a new HDD to take the place of the current systemdrive (the drive on which Windows resides) will affect validation (and activation) status if you do a fresh installation of the Operating System (OS).  Simply re-activating and re-validating your freshly installed, properly licensed OEM, retail, or Volume License installation of XP will restore your validation status to normal.

If your current installation of XP is running nicely, if your configuration allows, use the disk imaging utility that comes with the HDD in the retail box to do a bit-for-bit copy of the old HDD to the new one.  If you bought a bare HDD, most HDD manufacturers have the utility on their downloads page.  Using the imaging method will most likely not affect your activation status if you have not recently reinstalled the OS and should not affect your validation status at all.
