AD crashed due to hardware failure, CRM server survived, need to get CRM into the newly created domain RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need help, my company has been running CRM 4.0, and will eventually goto 2011. Our AD environment is a small one, and both domain controllers died due to hardware failure. As part of the disaster recovery new AD environment has been setup on Windows 2008 R2, and I need "re-setup"/"re-configure" the existing CRM 4 Server to work against the new domain.

I have seen lots of instructions for moving CRM to a new server in a new domain, but I have not seen any instructions for  reconfiguring the existing server in-place to talk with a new domain. The server is currently still in the old domain, and I can access the server via cached credentials.

I need to know the steps to follow before and after removing the server from the old domain, and adding the server to the domain as a member server. I apologize for the question as I am very exhausted from the disaster recover process, and want to do this right the first time.

    thanks in advanced,

    Rich

  • I would install a new fresh CRM on a new box, take a backup of the current CRM database and import it on the new CRM deployment using the Deployment manager; there you should be able to map the users from different domains.

  • Hi Rich,

I think this can help you.

There are two distinct methods to recover your CRM environment.

    1. Install a fresh copy and import (takes longer)

    2. Install and connect to an existing organisation (this is quicker but requires small tweaks)

    Hope this helps
