  • An archive file is a copy of the file as it existed at the time of Archive. The Archive process removes non-investment transactions
from before a specified date and adjusts the OpeningBalance of each account to compensate for removed transactions.

I suggest you not do that again. While there are some people who want to do this on purpose, most people who do it were expecting something else.

To open an archive file, one way is to do File->Open in Money. You can do the same thing to switch back to your newer file.

Your next question may be "Is there a way to merge archived files back together?"
    There is no easy way.

The not-so-easy way would be to
    1. File->Export each account as a QIF file
    2. edit each *.qif file to eliminate overlaps using a text editor
(not a word processor). Fortunately the records are in date-order.
    3. File->Import as new or recovered accounts and selecting *all*
such QIF files with Ctrl+<click> to import all at once.
    4. Change the OpeningBalance of each account as needed.
    5. Check your files for anomalies and fix them.
