Vista problem

Question

Hi,
I have lenovo laptop, with core 2 duo processor, 2GB RAM, 160 GB Hard disk, and operating system is genuine windows vista home basic. The windows vista is effected through many problems, firstly the AERO graphics system is not properly configured in it. Even with such a high configuration the windows switcher doesn't work.
The main problem is that many games do not install in it like Counter Strike, and even if they are installed like Need for Speed Carbon they will not run with AppCrash error.
I heard that microsoft is launching service pack for windows vista, can u pls tell me the tentative date for the launch of the service pack. Pls tell them to fix these problems in windows vista home basic, also tell them to check the service pack extensively so that it will not create more errors in the existing operating system.
Most of my friends have shifted to windows Xp but i want to remain with windows vista, so pls help me out......Thanking You

You can't have AERO on Windows Vista Home Basic Edition and the Starter Edition. All the other editions (Home Premium, Business, Ultimate) have AERO. So, regardless of your PC configuration, you can't have AERO. Your only solution is to upgrade.
Home Basic sucks in my opinion for the price you pay. Relatively, its best to upgrade to Home Premium. You can upgrade at Microsoft Connect, so you need only pay the differential amount.
I had no trouble installing any of Valve games like Counter Strike, CS Source, Half Life, etc. It all installed fine and works smoothly. Setting the installer in compatibility mode to Windows XP might help. Else, I would recommend getting it from Steam directly.
About NFS Carbon, apparently the movie files in NFSC has some issues on Vista. So the moment the game starts, the intro video starts to play which crashes the program. I fixed the problem temporarily by renaming/deleting the MOVIES folder under the root installation folder of NFSC but that comes at a costly price, you can't see Emmanuelle Vaugier (Nikki)
EA has released an official patch to fix the problem. For some reason, I couldn't download it from the official site. I got it from another source. I have uploaded the file to my server just for you. You can download it here: http://www.jetblazer.com/misc/nfsc_patch1.3_collectors_englishuk.exe
Vista SP1 RC has been released to public. You could download it if you are having too many problems. You can download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9de6260e-4275-482d-9524-de850c4dd91c&displaylang=en <-- for 64-bit. Google for 32-bit.
P.S. Let me know when you are done downloading the NFS patch so that I can delete it from my server.

Hi,
I have a laptop which runs on windows Vista home premium , core 2 duo with 2GB RAM, 200 GB HDD. I am not able to install Catia V5 on the system directly since some error occurs while the installation procedure. Anyways even if i would install Catia V5 in the SAFE MODE I am not able to run the application efficiently. The application response is very slow for opening and closing of the files. Is there any solution for this problem? or microsoft has to come up with a solution for this yet?
Somebody help me out. I need to run Catia on my Vista Home Premium Laptop.
Thanking you,

Hello Pavan Kumar.nr did you resolve problem with catia on vista. I have close similar to yours. I've installed Catia V5R19 on Vista Home Premium and there's no specifiction tree. Someones claim that Vista Home Premium can not work with vista, but my Catia looks good without one problem that I can't see Specification Tree.
I will be thankful for answer.Thursday, August 6, 2009 10:21 PM -
You may find something from http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/ph/11732#tab0
That's my general way to solve problems related to Microsoft products.
Personally I recommend Windows XP. Vista does not act well in compatibility.Thursday, September 3, 2009 8:06 AM -
