  • Question

  • I have Windows Live OneCare version 1.0 operating on my computer.  It has never been upgraded to 1.5.  It alerts me that my subscription is about to expire - now down to 15 days.  I have tried for the last 18 days to renew but am continually blocked.  I have been told that it is less expensive to buy the 1.5 upgrade then it is to download the upgrade.  My question is:  Do I have to uninstall the 1.0 version before I install the 1.5 version?  Also, Live OneCare info states that once 2.0 is operational that I will be automatically upgraded to 2.0.  I find this hard to believe when I was never upgraded to 1.5.

  • Wow! I've heard of people stuck on 1.5, but never 1.0, Dan. Version 2.0 has been out since November of 2007. My recommendation at this point is to look for a sale on OneCare - the version doesn't matter, you just need the retail key.

When your current subscription expires, uninstall it and run the cleanup tool -

    Then install OneCare from http://onecare.live.com

Activate with your LiveID (after your other subscription expires!) or create a new LiveID for this new subscription - http://account.live.com - and use the retail key from inside the box to activate your subscription.
